In December 1986, the Northrop Corporation made the significant decision to terminate its ambitious F-20 Tigershark fighter aircraft program. This program had a long and extensive history, stretching over a span of more than ten years and accumulating a staggering cost of over $1.2 billion. What made the F-20 program particularly distinctive was its financial model – it was privately funded. This means that Northrop, along with its network of subcontractors, took on the entire financial responsibility for the project.
Throughout its development, the F-20 Tigershark program aimed to create an advanced and versatile fighter aircraft capable of meeting the demands of modern air warfare. However, despite the substantial investment and effort poured into the project, Northrop ultimately decided to halt its development in 1986.
