Tax lien investing is the buying of the legal right of a government on a property, which is imposed due to default in paying property taxes by the owner. These liens are auctioned to the investors who pay the owed taxes to the government. The property owner will then be required to pay the investor back his debt plus interest or penalties. Otherwise, the owner can owe the investor the right to foreclose the property in case he/she does not pay within a given timeframe during redemption. High returns may be realized on this investment but it involves risk awareness and research.
