RTX builds can look similar in the title and still need different PSUs. I saw this when two friends both wanted RTX setups, but one planned a quiet 5070 build and the other wanted a 5090 with a high-end CPU. The GPU name helped, but it did not tell the whole story. We used https://seasonic.com/insights/psu-wattage-for-different-rtx-builds/ to compare how entry-level, mainstream, high-end, and enthusiast RTX systems behave under average and peak loads. That page was a decent reality check because it included headroom and power spikes, not just neat marketing numbers. I would suggest checking something like that before buying. It is safer to match the PSU to the complete build than to copy someone else’s wattage.

The whole system matters more than the GPU name alone. An RTX card with a modest CPU and few drives is not the same as the same class of GPU paired with a flagship processor, liquid cooling, many SSDs, and streaming workloads. Peak spikes should be part of the PSU decision, not an afterthought.

Two people in my gaming group both said they were building RTX PCs, but their parts lists were completely different. One had a mid-range CPU and one SSD, while the other wanted a flagship processor, more drives, and heavy streaming. Should RTX wattage be chosen by the GPU alone or by the whole system?
