How does Sedum store water in its leaves?

The leaves of sedum plants are thick and fleshy and they are therefore water storage and cause them to be resistant to droughts. This is a succulent characteristic that enables them to be withheld without water due to their ability to live longer without any watering and can be placed in a dry and sunny part of the garden with water being scarce.
