If you have multiple data sources, it can be very helpful to have a data warehouse diagram to help you understand the entire setup. The common diagram includes source systems, ingestion layer (ETL), staging areas, the warehouse, and reporting / analytics applications. It may additionally display the way information flows among these components. Typically I would like to keep the first diagram simple and only add technical details when necessary! This aids both technical and non-technical staff members to understand the architecture and to find out any potential gaps prior to implementation.
